Ernst Scholtz

Ernst Scholtz is S&C Electric Company’s Chief Technology Officer. He leads the company’s Technology and Breakthrough Innovation (TBI) team, ‌which focuses on technology-led innovations, knowledge creation, and prototyping of future offerings. This team also supports the maintenance of existing S&C products and the development of new products, all to help improve grid resilience and reliability.

Before joining S&C, Ernst spent 20 years at Hitachi Energy, formerly ABB, first as a scientist, then leading the corporate research organization. He also has commercial experience, leading product management for services and network control businesses for Hitachi Energy.

Ernst is originally from South Africa and received a BEng and MEng from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He relocated to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue his PhD in Electrical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is based in Chicago and is an avid cyclist.
