Empowering the Next Generation: Hands-On Learning and Innovation at Spark Engineering Camp
With the pressing need to address climate change and build sustainable energy infrastructure, the world needs fresh ideas and diverse perspectives in STEM more than ever before. How do we inspire the next generation’s interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)? Look no further than the Spark Engineering Camp, a program that empowers the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.
That's why S&C is proud to partner with Monash University's Spark Engineering Camp in Australia, a program that helps students from under-resourced communities break down the barriers to accessing education and pursuing a career in STEM. We've supported more than 300 students by participating in this inspiring program for the past several years, and in 2022 we took it to the next level by hosting part of the week-long camp at our Melbourne office.
The event was a huge success, with 53 attendees, including 40 high school students and 13 university mentors, coming together for a day of educational and fun activities. We welcomed them into our Customer Experience Centre, where we showcased the components of the electrical grid and demonstrated how electricity is generated and delivered. We also provided hands-on experience with several S&C products that help to reduce the impact of climate-related weather events, such as the devastating Australian bushfires.
The Spark Engineering Camp is just one way that S&C is working to expand access to STEM career opportunities and cultivate inclusive spaces where young professionals from all backgrounds can thrive. We already have plans in motion for the 2023 event, where we’ll bring a new group of students and mentors to our campus for another day of inspiration and learning.
At S&C, we are proud to help build the grid of the future and enable a cleaner energy infrastructure. Thanks to the Spark Engineering camp, we can inspire next-gen STEM talent to turn their passion into action.
