Habersham Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) Advances Grid Resilience Across Northeast Georgia with S&C Technology
Collaboration between the companies has yielded a 14.6% average reduction in outage duration for Habersham EMC members compared to the previous three years
Chicago – December 10, 2024 – Habersham EMC, a leading electric cooperative, and S&C Electric Company, a top innovator of resilient grid technology, announced that the deployment of S&C solutions was successful in improving the resilience and reliability of Habersham EMC’s power grid.
Habersham EMC provides reliable, clean, and affordable energy to more than 28,000 members in six counties across northeast Georgia. As part of its commitment to providing members with the most reliable and efficient service possible, Habersham EMC proactively invested in innovative solutions from S&C. The newly deployed technology—IntelliRupter® PulseCloser® Fault Interrupters, TripSaver® II Cutout-Mounted Reclosers, and IntelliTeam™ FMS Feeder Management Systems—enables real-time monitoring and automated fault detection, isolation, and restoration.
“We are dedicated to staying at the forefront of grid modernization to better serve our members,” said Bryan Ferguson, CEO of Habersham EMC. “Our close collaboration with S&C has been instrumental in enhancing the resilience and reliability of our system. We are proud to be a leader in adopting advanced technologies that improve the overall efficiency and sustainability of our operations.”
Since deploying S&C technology, Habersham EMC has achieved a 14.6% average reduction in outage duration compared to the previous three years. Additionally, individual members experienced a 38% decrease in the minutes they were out of power. This reduction in outage duration means fewer disruptions and more reliable power for the homes and businesses that depend on electricity for everything from mobile phones and personal computers to transportation and home health care.
“We are pleased to support Habersham EMC’s efforts to build a resilient grid that withstands and recovers from outages and minimizes the impact on its members,” said Anders Sjoelin, president and CEO of S&C Electric Company. “This project highlights how building the grid we need requires working together to invest in and implement innovative distribution solutions that strengthen the grid's ability to withstand disruption. When our customers are successful, we create a more resilient and reliable electrical energy future for all.”
