CHICAGO, March 5, 2025—S&C Electric Company, a leading innovator of resilient electric grid technology, continues to drive intelligence and action in power distribution with today’s announcement of an integrated solution featuring Gridscope™ from grid-monitoring firm Gridware and S&C’s TripSaver® II Cutout-Mounted Recloser.

The product bundle from S&C offers power providers a low-cost, flexible, and scalable grid-visibility solution that enhances situational awareness, improves response times, and minimizes disruptions caused by faults and extreme weather conditions.

“At S&C, we are laser-focused on strengthening resilience and bringing more intelligence and visibility to the grid,” said Joe Matamoros, chief product development officer of S&C Electric Company. “Today’s announcement is another step toward a smarter, more adaptive grid, and we’re pleased to offer power customers a flexible and scalable solution for 24/7 fault-sensing, situational awareness, and comprehensive data collection.”

Electricity is essential to modern lives, and power consumption continues to accelerate. However, power delivery remains highly susceptible to disruption from extreme weather, vegetation, wildlife, and other issues.

Integrating cost-effective monitoring and communication solutions into the S&C distribution grid portfolio helps customers improve reliability, reduce outages, and optimize operations. It also enables them to track the performance of their devices and easily measure the benefits of distribution automation on their system.

The approach prioritizes flexibility, resilience, and adaptability, allowing customers to add intelligence where and when needed for integration with existing grid-protection and restoration solutions.

Overhead Grid Resilience

Together, TripSaver II recloser and Gridscope deliver:

  • A flexible, scalable solution that enhances overhead fault detection and monitors device operations and grid conditions
  • 24/7 fault-sensing and environmental monitoring to improve situational awareness
  • Faster restoration and operational efficiency by helping utilities determine the location and severity of faults before dispatching crews

“We’re excited by the combination of Gridscope and S&C’s TripSaver II recloser,” said Tim Barat, co-founder and CEO of Gridware. “Deployed on transmission and distribution poles, our Gridscope devices deliver continuous, real-time grid monitoring--even during outages--by leveraging multi-sensors and on-device analysis. Gridscope units make ordinary power poles self-aware and equip them with the communication tools needed to alert grid operators of hazards and faults when they occur.”

Gridware devices use standards-based 4G LTE communication to transmit data on the health of grid assets to utilities. These devices also include built-in solar panels and a high-capacity, long-lasting battery to help ensure they always remain operable.

The product bundle makes it simpler for utilities to add communications and visibility features now or in the future. The new product is available for new deployments or retrofitting to existing infrastructure.
