Sacramento Municipal Utility District on stage winning the 2025 S&C Powered by Diversity Award

DISTRIBUTECH, DALLAS, March 26, 2025S&C Electric Company, a leading innovator of resilient grid technology, today announced that Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) has won the 2025 S&C Powered by Diversity Award.  The utility serves more than 670,000 customers throughout northern California.

The annual award was announced as part of the S&C Powered by Diversity Networking event at the DISTRIBUTECH International trade conference. It honors international utilities that best demonstrate achievement in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace and in their service communities.

SMUD’s winning entry included strong demonstration of the impact it’s making to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at SMUD and in the community. Through its Community Impact Plan, Sustainable Communities Resource Priorities Map, workforce programs and more, SMUD is enhancing customer program equity to ensure these areas are included in SMUD's 2030 Clean Energy Vision. The utility’s diverse workforce plays a key role in achieving this vision by fostering innovation and allowing space for all ideas to thrive.

As the nation’s sixth-largest, community-owned, not-for-profit electric service provider, SMUD has been providing low-cost, reliable electricity to Sacramento County for more than 75 years. SMUD is a recognized industry leader for its innovative energy efficiency programs, renewable power technologies and sustainable solutions for a healthier environment. In 2023, SMUD’s power supply was, on average, 78 percent carbon free. SMUD has a goal to reach zero carbon in its electricity production by 2030.
