S&C Supports Between Friends During Pandemic
Chicago-based organization Between Friends works to help those facing domestic violence, offering counseling, education, training, legal assistance, and other essential services. As millions have been forced inside due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Between Friends estimates that 15 million additional cases of domestic violence could be seen globally as a result of the isolation and stress for those in dangerous homes.
This makes Between Friends’ work increasingly pressing and the pandemic has forced them to adapt to the extreme challenges of doing their work remotely while maintaining the privacy and safety of victims of domestic violence. It is heart-wrenching to think of any members of our communities who are confined in their home with abusers.
Between Friends asked for help from S&C’s Women’s Empowerment Group (WEG), which normally assists the organization in various ways throughout the year and attends their annual fundraiser. Though we cannot meet in person to raise funds, S&C answered this call to provide resources for those in need.
After efficient communication by VP—Power Systems Solutions Angie Schuler, Sr. Executive Assistant Tammi Silverstein, Chief Financial & Administrative Officer Sue Keyes, and others, the S&C Fund made a $7,500 (USD) grant to benefit Between Friends in their time of crisis. WEG members also made personal contributions in the spirit of S&C’s support of the organization and their cause.
If you are in need of immediate assistance due to a domestic violence situation, call Between Friends’ crisis hotline at 1-800-603-4357 or visit their website at www.betweenfriendschicago.org
